At age 11, after watching a bonus feature video, “The Music in You” from “Barbie-Swan Lake”(an interview of 5 teenage musicians with a clip of the cellist playing Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake theme), she fell in love with the cello. She picked up the cello at age 13 and played in both her high school’s Chinese and Philharmonic Orchestra, also appointed as student conductor. Under the orchestra, she had the privilege of participating in various national and international competitions and concerts, including a joined concert in 2006 with the Hong Kong Juvenile and Youth Chinese Classical Orchestra (HKJYCCO) at Shatin Hall, Hong Kong, 21st Century International Arts Festival 2007 and 2009 held in GICC, Genting Highlands. Her orchestra emerged as overall grand champion and in the latter, she received the excellence award as student conductor. In 2010, the orchestra held a concert trip to Shang Hai, China for another joined concert with the local youth orchestra.
Since 2012, Sophia has based herself in Kuala Lumpur as an active teacher and performer, lead vocalist in her former band, Skazz, and current cellist of the Strings Attached Quartet.
