Foo Yin Hong
Double Bass & Cello Instructor
“The bass can be a melodic instrument in the hands of a good player.”
It all started with a youth orchestra performance from Long Island, New York, that kindled Foo to start acquiring an orchestra instrument. Beginning his journey at a late age due to financial difficulties, he began taking private lessons, attending workshops and masterclasses during his late teens. After getting into the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra in the late 90s, he was able to pursue his Masters (Performance Programme) at the University of Limerick, Ireland.
With over 20 years of teaching experience and more than a decade of working experience with orchestras, Foo hopes to promote the bass as it was considered a rare instrument during his time. “It is not known to play melody, but the bass can be a melodic instrument in the hands of a good player.” He plans to start a double bass society in the near future to promote interest and awareness of the double bass.
