Phang Jiun Yiee
DRUM
Phang Jiun Yiee is a Drummer from Ayer Tawar, Perak. He plays a variety of genres but is a Rock Drummer at his core. Having grown up in a church, he listens to religious music a lot and is greatly influenced by Andy Harrison, Drummer for Planetshakers.
Jiun Yiee’s musical journey started on the Piano when he was six, then only the Drum when he finished primary school. He began to learn Bass Guitar after four years of drumming to better understand the synergies between the Drum and the Bass.
Jiun Yiee continued to develop his musicianship skills and when he was experiencing his unusual university life, he had the opportunity to join a military marching band of the Australian Defence Force Academy, Canberra, Australia. He learnt the way of traditional drumming and represented the academy in performances for two years. He is currently pursuing his Diploma in Music Performance at UCSI University, Malaysia, under the tutelage of Mr. Ong Chong Han. Having years of experience in both modern and traditional drumming, he was exposed to different styles of drumming which helped him in his sensitivity to different genres.
Jiun Yiee has had the opportunity to be the Guest Drummer for jazz band performances. He also had performances as a Drummer and Bassist in bands. He is now one of the Drummers for Agape Malaysia.
Jiun Yiee is interested in music performance and production. However, his passion lies in music education. He’s constantly equipping himself to be a great music educator and hopefully, be one of the pillars in shaping and elevating the standard of music in Malaysia, bringing out the music appreciation culture in the society.
